Celebrity Style……

While scissors have been snipping lately at the salons, many fashionistas have chosen to forgo the “big snip” and rock long luscious locks, ringlets and the oh-s0 fab body wave……
Looks like Miss Janet has not only topped the Bill Board Charts, but she’s rocking her signature tresses and looking totally fab at the same time.

Just leave it up to Ms. B to rock sensational ringlets with ease………

And don’t forget the fierce Miss Tyra who continues to keep us guessing with her flowing tresses and her unapologetic experimentation with colors………..

Though she’s recently embraced a bevy of cropped cuts and asymmetrical bobs lately, Rihanna the R&B Bad Girl made her debut in long lengths…..

Hair Care 101, The Carol’s Daughter Way….

January 31, 2008 · 1 Comment

Winter weather can really take a toll on a fashionista’s mane……

The frigid temperatures can not only strip your hair of moisture but open the doors for split ends and breakage. Carol’s Daughter hair care products are infused with natural ingredients created by the lovely Lisa Price.

As a fashionista and hair fanatic (fondly known as the wig/weave queen by family & friends), here’s a few Carol’s Daughter products that I utilize to keep my style intact and looking healthy all winter long……

Mimosa Hair Honey is a favorite for my entire family. In addition to my daily use, I utilize it on my 3 year old male fashionista to keep his mane moisturized and looking good. He loves the smell and enthusiastically asks mommy every morning “to please put that in my hair” . The Hair honey works well on my 6 year old fashionista, who yes…… unapologetically dons a relaxer since the age of 4 and loves it. It provides her tresses with shine without the heaviness or build-up of traditional grease or pomades.

While I’ve used countless shampoos in my lifetime, none compares to the Khoret Amen Herbal Shampoo. I’m not sure if it’s the combination of sea moss or rosemary but this leaves my hair feeling clean and refreshed. Best of all, it doesn’t over power you with fragrance just a slight hint of lavender coats your damaged hair.

While I love the salon (but hate the time it takes out of my day), I love to indulge in at-home hair care and after shampooing a deep conditioning and leave-in treatment are a must for this fashionista. The Tui Leave-In Conditioner offers a subtle mist of tropical flowers and passion fruit while providing my hair with a radiant shine that last for days……..

Lastly, The Kizzi “Stay-Put”Hair Pomade has been making its rounds with me since 2000. These were during my “Halle Berry Short Cut” days. Kizzi not only kept my fly-aways and sides down, it kept my cut looking fierce even in between touch-ups (relaxers). Currently I’m using it to mold my son’s hair when he’s skipped a barber visit. And Yes, Even with my wigs/weaves Kizzi is still holding the sides down……

Although Carol’s Daughter products can be purchased at Macy’s and Sephora, I just love the personalized attention and assistance I receive at the stores………

Cutting It Up…..

January 26, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Looks like our favorite fashionista is rocking a snazzy new do…..

Rihanna hit the red carpet at the NRJ Awards in Cannes, France. Rihanna was nominated for International Female Artist of the Year, International Song of the Year and International Album of the Year.

Rihanna’s cut frames her bronzed face and works well with her off the shoulder Grecian inspired gown (love the details) and strappy stacked heels….

In My Bag……

January 23, 2008 · Leave a Comment

As promised at the beginning of 2008, I will be bringing you some of my favorite Beauty Must-Haves that keep this sassy fashionista looking stunning and feeling fabulous…….

I’ve swiped, slathered, tried, and tested my way through countless new beauty products in the name of shopping journalism. If you incorporate the piles of products I try on my own, you’d know that I have definitely “made my rounds” in the world of beauty.

Here’s a few that are currently taking center stage in my Make-Up Bag…..

Carol’s Daughter is synonymous with luxury and natural beauty and their Tui Hair Oil is no exception…. This combination of mango, guava and passion fruit delivers a beautiful shine and leaves your hair soft and silky.

A favorite of Jada Pinkett Smith, Tui Hair Oil is a great alternative for fashionistas like me who opt for wigs/weaves. Sometimes we neglect our natural hair underneath and forgo regular treatments (shame on us). Massage a few drops into the scalp daily and keep your natural hair healthy and radiant. This also works well as a weekly hot oil treatment. Carol’s Daughter, $8.00-$17.50

If you wear foundation, you’ll never put it on again without MAC Fix+ ……… This aqua-spritz of vitamin and minerals, calms the skin and adds radiance while perfectly finishing makeup. Two or three spritzes and you’ll feel your skin drinking it up!!!! MAC, $15

Essie Cosmetics exceptional quality and whimsical shade names have garnered them the industry leader in nail care. The chip-resistant formula has an outstanding durability with a dynamic color selection far superior to anything else on the market.

Typically, Essie introduces 4 new collections a year seasonally and the line includes over 200 shades. My all time favorites are Fed Up, Sugar Daddy and Pinking Up The Pieces. Essie, $8

Running High, Running Low……I Got a New Attitude……Patti Labelle

Songstress and fashionista Miss Patti Labelle will introduce a new line of wigs in January from the Especially Yours collection of hair accessories. Fans of LaBelle’s already famous hairstyles can now enjoy the same looks without expensive trips to the salon.

The line will launch with 10 styles: Ageless Beauty, Black Majesty, Dynamite Diva, Enchanted Evening, Flame, and Sunday’s Best in synthetic hair; and Lady LaBelle, Lovely Lady, Patti Fab, and Sassy LaBelle in 100% human hair. Each will be available in a selection of stunning brunettes, reds and highlights, as well as in LaBelle’s custom blended colors (whew, can’t wait).

In February, the full line will be featured in Especially Yours catalogs featuring LaBelle on the cover. Prices will range from $49 for synthetic hair and $99 for premium human hairstyles.

There are at least five more wig styles planned for 2008, plus many great hairpieces such as bun styles. According to LaBelle, a line of shampoos, conditioners, and sheens to care for and style the wigs is on the way along with “some fun accessories such as jewelry–all my favorite earrings–and some magnificent eye lashes!”

Hot or Not for 2008……

January 2, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Long hair is fab and definitely allows you to play up the glam factor (trust me, I’m the wig queen). However, despite our love affair the weaves, wigs and lace fronts may be taking a break in 2008.
I don’t have to remind you of the “Bob Ambition” , this year and the ladder part of 2007 proved asymmetrical cuts reign. It’s the perfect style if your looking to change up your look for 2008.

The Celebrity Bob Ambition & How To Get It…….

November 30, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Snazzy Scissors must be snipping away in Hollywood these days…..
Seems like our favorite celebrities are all sportin’ the bob. Fortunately this look is simply fabulous on just about every face shape. Not sure who created this of-the-moment hair sensation, but it is definitely appealing and uber chic….
This phenomenon reminds me of 1992 when Halle Berry sported her chic short haircut in Boomerang and sent sisters to the hair salon in a cutting frenzy.
I must admit, I was one of those happy souls in 1992 (I even think I was one of the first in my High School to take the “Big Snip”)……..

Mary is often known as a style innovator and her frosted tresses are simply elegant.

Victoria Beckham has been rockin’ her look for a minute.

No one does it like Naomi…….

Even Paris got in on the phenomenon.

Kelly Osbourne was one of the first to debut the look….

Ciara even tried it for a hot second…..
Rihanna’s bob keeps us guessing…..

Nicole does her version, though it’s not my favorite….

Miss Bossy (Kelis) debuted her own sassy take on the bob in 2006.

Now before you go spending the mortgage payment on Ted Gibson or Kimberly Kimble…..try the look on for free courtesy of InStyle Magazine…….

The Hollywood Hair Makeover allows you try your favorite celebrity hairstyles and colors to see which looks fabulous on you..
  • Just upload a picture of yourself (a nice close-up, with all hair out of your face works best)
  • Find your favorite style
  • Play around with the colors (they even let you do highlights)
  • Print the picture and take it with you to your next stylist appointment
  • Or you can email it to your BFF and get her opinion
  • Lastly, make sure and save your looks for future reference

Try it, and trust me you’ll love it. It’s really fun, free and the results are amazing. I think I may be addicted….

Good Luck on your Style Journey ….

Katie’s New Bangs…

November 30, 2007 · Leave a Comment

We at Tres Chic Style are loving the new look, Katie’s “flapper” cut is sophisticated and chic and just screams “Hollywood Glamour”.
Our favorite Fashion Butterfly has really upped the ante on this one. Katie has manged to transform her already sassy bob into a sleeker version with a heavy blunt fringe.

I think she has outgrown the Katie and we’ll just call this fashionista Kate from now on…
